Knoxville, Tennessee-based House-Hasson Hardware saw a more than 20% increase in 2014 over last year in the number of new and remodeled hardware stores and lumberyards it helped customers design and build.

House-Hasson carried out 37 such “store-sets” in 2014, besting by seven the previous company record of 30 set last year.  It’s the third straight year 107-year-old House-Hasson, America’s largest independent regional hardware distributor, has set a new store-set record.

Company president Don Hasson says the store-set increase is an acceleration of a trend that began in earnest in 2013.

“There are two reasons for what’s taking place in store-sets,” Hasson said. “First, dealers are becoming increasingly more optimistic about business generally; second, they see a new or expanded store as an investment that will give them the greatest return.”

Hasson said his company has a team that works with dealers to analyze location and customer demographics; compute space requirements, design, and layout; construct advertising programs; determine inventory product mix and size; and multiple other issues.

“Independent hardware store and lumberyard dealers are growth businesses, particularly as they expand their inventories and services to compete and win against big box stores,” Hasson said.  “Dealers find new or expanded stores exceed financial growth they’d achieve in through savings accounts, certificates of deposits, or other investments.”

House-Hasson Hardware serves some 2,000 independent hardware stores and lumberyards in 17 states and the Caribbean.
